i dislike queer studies, and specifically white writers of queer theory. i feel like queer studies failed to do any of the goals it set out to accomplish.  it was designed in the 1990s to be this intersectional, inclusive, anti-heteronormative field of study that built theory around ‘queerness’ and the complexities of ‘queerness’ as an idea, lifestyle, etc.  but for me it wasn’t built upon anything real.  it was theory without ground, ideas without lived experience, and it became unappealing and i learned very little.  i stick with lesbian (and gay, bi, trans, queer, etc) women of color feminisms mostly as my theoretical standpoint because they really take into consideration intersectionality and these theorists draw from daily, lived experiences which makes the theories they create based on something emotional, painful, exciting, and most importantly real.  they are not building upon the work of dead or old white theorists, they are not trying to make old theories fit our complex lives.  queer women of color (and queer people of color) work on transformation and transcendence. this is the work that new generations of queer scholars (of color) can continue, if we so choose.
